PM Boris Johnson visits one of our projects

Prime Minister Boris Johnson visits one of our clients’ construction sites, located at Stonehouse in Gloucestershire.

Our client, Barratt Homes, had a visit from the UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on Monday (19th April) at their Great Oldbury development, which is situated in Stonehouse, approximately 5.5 miles from Stroud, in the county of Gloucestershire.

This was the PM’s first visit to Gloucestershire since the easing of the lockdown restrictions. Meeting with staff from Barratt Homes, including their CEO, along with trades and apprentices who work on this development, Johnson, along with Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie, marked the launch of a government-backed mortgage scheme.

The new scheme is aimed at helping more households access new mortgages on new-builds and existing homes throughout the UK, without the requirement of a large deposit.

The 95% mortgage guarantee scheme is set to help homebuyer with low despot or limit assists to purchase a property with as little as a 5% deposit. 

It has been revealed that most major banks have yet to back the scheme, though Boris Johnson claimed they will.  

Speaking with the press, Johnson mentioned his sympathy for young people as it was much easier 30 years ago to get on the property ladder than it is now – this is partly due to the ratio of property prices to average incomes, which was greatly lower than it is today. The price of homes across the UK has risen dramatically over those years, while peoples incomes and ability to afford them has not kept up. 

Barratt Homes’ Great Oldbury development has been one of our new-build construction cleaning projects since the site broke ground a couple of years ago. 

We continue to support Barratt at this site and into the future with other developments. This visit by the Prime Minister has been a positive occasion, his intention with this new scheme is to help the construction industry as a whole, and to help not just first-time buyers, but anyone who is seeking to buy a home
