Hochtief Exeter Depot

Hochtief £40 million Exeter Rail Depot Revamp

We recently concluded our work on Exeter’s new $40 million rail maintenance depot revamp for German construction giant Hochtief.

Founded in 1873, Hochtief is Germany’s largest construction company and operates globally with tens of thousands of employees. Their engineering feats are impressive, they include the transplantation of the Abu Simbel rock temples in Egypt (saving them from the rise of the River Nile caused by the Aswan High Dam) and the construction of Germany’s first nuclear power plant.

During World War II they were heavily involved with traffic routes, including the autobahn, but Hochtief also worked on more notorious projects such as, the Führerbunker in Berlin, Hitler’s Bavarian Alps retreat, known as the Berghof, and his “Wolf’s lair” command centre in Rastenburg (Ketrzyn).

Construction projects in more recent times include, the Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey (connecting Asia to Europe) and the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt. It’s safe to say that any construction project undertaken by Hotchief will be in good hands with their vast experiences and success across various types of infrastructure projects.

This project, that we had the pleasure to work on, was an expansion of the existing Old View Depot train maintenance facility in the city of Exeter with the purpose to accommodate a larger fleet size for train operator GWR to service Devon and Cornwall. This upgrade will lead to more seats and more frequent services throughout these counties which have been badly-needed over recent years.

The new facility, built next to Exeter St.Davids station now provides enhanced modern servicing, maintenance and cleaning facilities, including welfare facilities for its staff.

Over the course of approximately 2 weeks our specialist construction cleaners were scheduled to carry out various cleans, which included post-construction cleaning and handover cleaning on multiple visits to the site.

Working on and around main train lines is extremely dangerous, as you can imaging. Our specialist trained cleaners go through additional health & safety training and support to ensure that they can carry out their duties safely and to the highest of industry standards when working around such environments – delivering the results that are above and beyond our clients expectations where ever possible.

Simply Cleaning has the capabilities to support train operators with railway maintenance & cleaning services for passenger trains and supporting passenger & staff facilities.
